BIRTHDAY PARTY EXPERIENCEWe hired Ed’s Pet world to come to our daughter’s 9th birthday party and it was a total HIT! The kids absolutely loved every second of it. We had at least 30 crazy kids there and Sebastian did an awesome job with them all! Every kid got to hold each animal which was quite an accomplishment in itself! This was definitely a birthday experience my lizard loving daughter will never forget. 5 stars for Sebastian’s ability to handle so many kiddos and also help my daughter feel special!

Just dont. :( animals are NOT taken care of at all. I learned that the animals they have do not come from reputable breaders. Instead they purchase from mills or even Craigslist then jack up their prices while NOT maintaining adequate care for these animals. Lighting not available for reptile that NEED them for survival, soiled bedding and caked on feces for the furry 4 legged friends and birds left to eat their own droppings. Tanks are awful. The filth is just terrible. Tanks have poor filtration- most are totally green. 1 star is a compliment ....

absolutely disgusting. Do not support this place. Most of the enclosures do not even have the bare minimum to house healthy animals. The rats are placed in glass tanks that look like they have not been washed in months. (rats aren't even supposed to be in tanks in the first place, so already off to a bad start.)Inside the tanks there is absolutely NOTHING for the rats besides an oversized bowl of food and water. No enrichment, no hides, no way to be comfortable in cold seasons. It's not even cold right now and in one tank there is a litter of young rats, which can't be more than a few weeks old by the look of them, huddled up in the corner for warmth.They are literally being kept in glass boxes with nothing but food and water to keep them alive and healthy. I own two pet rats and this is NOT how you should house them. At all. This is ABUSE.In one of the rodent cages, it looked like they had given them dryer lint for bedding and the rodents were coughing and sneezing.The bearded dragons had absolutely no light in their enclosure and the tanks were way too small. The entire store is disgusting, dirt and dust everywhere, absolutely not a safe environment for ANY living creature to be in. I am appalled. After walking in this store it makes petsmart look good, which is saying a lot.This store should be put out of business this is animal abuse and I genuinely have no idea how they're still up and running. Please, PLEASE do not support this place.

I would plead w people to not support this business. It is vile how these poor animals are kept and treated. Multiple reptiles kept in the same enclosure. Large reptiles kept in small enclosure. Wrong light and heat sources if any. Reptiles w 0 humidity. With obvious infections and malnutrition. Multiple dry to the bone water dishes. The few that did have water had several snakes jammed in the bowl. One enclosure had so much feces in it and urate there is no way it’s been clean in over a year. Rats w infections and skin conditions. The smell when you walk in is horrific. The owner creepily followed my friends daughter around. I balled my eyes out when I left. No animals deserve this treatment. This place should be shut down.

ANYONE that says this store is acceptable is not in their right mind. This store has animals in the back being inbred or constantly breeding to make a buck (inside source verified), the tanks are filthy, animals are sitting in their own feces - and I mean they are sitting in pee SOAKED bedding that has obviously hasn't been cleaned in weeks. One tank had baby turtles and there were three dead/one alive. One was under the platform and had a film over it- meaning it had been in there for an extended period of time decomposing. The birds usually have injuries and sometimes even deformed. They sell their birds like this. They don't bring them to a vet. Where the rats are, you can see parts on the tanks where there is dried blood - no its not their dark urine. It is blood. The hamster cage has a tube that is CAKED in feces and urine. THESE CAGES HAVE NOT BEEN CLEANED IN A LONG TIME. reptiles has inhumane caging and some have no heat sources. Skinny, sickly leopard geckos and bearded dragons. All the fish are on their last breath. This store needs to be shut down. If you buy from here, expect an animal that is sick or will die shortly after. (If you buy from them don't cry about it. You should know better when you walk into this place.) If you do not believe these claims then go for yourself. HORRIFIC PLACE FOR ALL ANIMALS.

It’s disgusting. We got a guinea pig for our daughter there when we happened to stop in because we were afraid it would die if we left it. They sent her home in a crock pot box and when we took her to the vet, she was covered in guinea pig lice. The animals are neglected, the building is dark, damp, musty and disgusting. The rabbits will lick you through the cages for the salt on your hands they’re so malnourished. I’m sad the health department and aspca hasn’t come in and shut this hell on earth for animals all the way down. It’s sick.

I had never heard of the place upon entering. the highest level of uncleanliness I’ve ever witnessed with animals in a store front. This is unacceptable. They’re supposed to be setting the example for how these animals are treated and cared for. They’re far from that themselves. This is abuse to these animals within that shop and I hope people stop funding such abuse. Worst case I’ve seen in a store front. Many animals without water or, if they had water, it was disgusting. Feces so built up within the enclosures it had to have taken weeks to get to the extremity it was. Ball pythons and other snakes being cohabbed within enclosures when never should ball pythons be cohabbed. Adult bearded dragons in (at largest) 10 gallon tanks. decaying chameleon in its enclosure that the man stated was (just fine yesterday) when it had literally already started decaying. Snakes attempting to fit in their waterbowls that were not adequately sized for them due to the infestation of mites on all of them. Monitors under such high heat intensity bulbs their skin had burns, with no where to escape the extreme heat. UNACCEPTABLE. SOMETHING NEEDS DONE!!!!!!

As a long time Birmingham resident, I was a little embarrassed that I had never visited this Homewood landmark. That was until today. I went by after lunch with some friends and upon entering I was immediately drawn to the rodents (I used to have pet rats when I was a kid). As I gazed upon the little white mice I told my friends I thought they were cute to which my friend responded by informing me they were “feeder mice”, my response was “well I would keep them”. Harmless right? Not to the owner. He immediately stormed over and began yelling about chicken nuggets and me not having the spine to slaughter my food myself, told me not to question how he feeds his snakes, how mice are “vicious creatures only bred to be violent against humans” and so on and so forth (I’m autistic and don’t do well with confrontation so I was frozen in shock and also literally cornered in a section of the store with him coming at me). This went on for a good 3 minutes as I simply said okay and attempted to turn my back to him several times to end the confrontation. I am absolutely appalled that this is how they treat customers who have a genuine interest in animals. That was my first and only time I will ever set foot in that establishment. And I didn’t even mention how disheveled and dirty the entire place was. That is NOT how Homewood treats people.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Nastiest place I've ever been in. Animals aren't kept properly. Bearded dragons had no basking light, no uvb, no light of any kind on them. She wanted 600 for one of them! Birds were in filth, rats were in filth, snakes improperly housed without light and heat. Disgusting business for not caring for animals even in the minimum sense of the world. It should be shut down.

Shoot, the workers may as well be the main attraction from all the horror stories I've heard and on the one occasion I visited with my fiancé it was disgusting, animals cages were unhabitable. such a terrible place. This place is absolutely disgusting.. as soon as you walk in you are hit with the worst smell. The animals here are so poorly taken care of. I saw a Bearded Dragon with at most, a 10 gal enclosure with the worst set up. This was not the only reptile there with bad environments. They cohabited multiple snakes and other animals that should not be together. The animals were so crammed in their enclosure. This place is a hoarding ground.. very filthy. Do NOT bring your business here. Shut down this place!!!!!!!

This place is disturbing. It smells of urine. Reptiles and fish are in tanks that are too small for them and are overcrowded. The aquariums are all dirty. All the negative reviews here are accurate. These animals are not being properly cared for. This place should be closed by the city for violating health codes and for mistreatment of the animals.

Horrible place. All the animals were kept in to small or enclosures. Most of the water bowls are bone dry. It smelled horrific. From someone that has had almost all of the reptiles in this building none of them are going to make it much longer if something is not done. Not to mention the fish tanks were HORRIBLE.

I didn’t see any of the things people are mad about. All the cages were clean I saw the staff working and feeding animals and the fish and turtle enclosures were in great condition. The birds were fine. The rabbits and guinea pigs and other fur balls sell so fast that there being 3 to a cage didn’t seem unreasonable and they all seemed to like to snuggle. The reptiles I do feel could use larger aquariums but they may also sell fast. I have raised many snakes they all appeared healthy and moving well no sores or issues.It smelled in the pet store like pets, unbelievable! LOL :/ like c’mon it’s a large pet store, I’m not sure what else you’d expect, like going to a barn and it not smell like a barn? Animal drop feces all day long the cleaning’s are on rotation, it’s going to stink! The staff were all helpful, prices reasonable and I saw clean cages, water and food for all. I had fun and didn’t see anything to be outraged over.

This place is so dirty! Poor animals are in filthy tanks and cages, Reptiles with no water or proper lighting to keep them warm. Most if the fish are dead, floating in their tanks! Owner gave up on this place because it really looks abandoned.

Improper husbandry for nearly every reptile in the store. This is animal abuse. I am sickened. If I could give 0 stars I would. Someone needs to come and shut this abomination down.

The bearded dragons are in deplorable condition. The owners should be charged with animal abuse, which is a felony and shut down. I will be reporting this business. The bearded dragons also have no UVB lighting which is fatal.

Everything that I have seen online just proves how immoral this store is. There needs to be daily demonstrations to close this establishment as soon as possible. Please take a close look at the photographs posted by other reviewers. Tiny confines, smothered in excrement. Many creatures are overcrowded in each cage. Reptiles without water or heat sources. One lizard was unable to even turn around because it was the length of the aquarium it was in. The guy who runs the store starts acting as though he gives a damn, but it is so evident that he does not. Go there only if you want to see hundreds of mistreated animals and have a twisted soul. I am not embellishing in the slightest; the severity of the situation is beyond words. It is truly heartbreaking.

I’ve never witnessed such a clown show of a business in my life. I inquired with several employees about several different fish and a tank. I was unable to purchase anything because nobody there knew the prices. On top of it the place was downright disgusting and there is no rhyme or reason to the entire place. The middle of the store has a hoarder esc space just littered with junk. Employees were friendly but not knowledgeable at all.

I totally agree with all the bad reviews. Every time I have ever been in this place, I was totally disgusted. Especially by the way, the birds are kept. I have complained to the Humane Society in the past, and apparently they do nothing!!!

This place should have been shut down YEARS ago. The animals are all clearly being neglected, there are roaches in the bottoms of bird cages. Snakes are in enclosures way too small. It’s terrible that rescuing these animals would only encourage the shop to buy more.

I went to buy my daughter all the things necessary to have a goldfish and thought I would probably spend a fortune. I didn’t. I was pleasantly surprised with the pricing of everything and the staff took excellent care of me. I really appreciate the way I was treated and the information given to me upon purchase. When they found out that my daughter had gone through a recent traumatic experience with a pet, they gave me an extra fish and said they hoped she feels better. That was really classy. Ed’s has made a loyal customer out of me.

To say this place is horrific situation for the animals is the understatement of the century!!! When you walk in you’re greeted with the odor of urine and fecal matter! They apparently don’t run the ac during the summer! So the heat magnified the smell. There was a 20 gallon tank with 3 ball pythons in it. For those of you who don’t know ball pythons are solitary animals. The poor birds are in deplorable cages! They need to be shut down since they clearly don’t care. I wish I had taken pictures

If you could say even more disgusting I would agree,Those poor creatures of God deserve better. The place is dark like a cave, and the stench hits you the second you open the front door! Been coming here for months and I can understand the concerns with multiple animals in the same cage but you also need to realize they sell these animals FAST. I've never seen an animal there for long. The few I have seen there for a while are animals that aren't for sale and are used for party animals. We love coming and just walking around spending social time with the animals. All the staff is amazing and very informative. Very helpful too.

Pet World is one of a kind pet store. It is not fancy place BUT the owner an workers are wonderful 👍 people. A great place to visit.
