I used to live in Alabama and this was my grocery store. I moved away about 700 miles and haven't found a store to compare to Gateway... It hasn't changed much. Still have the best deli, meat counter and the smiles of the cashier's. It was good to be back home and shop Gateway.. 💜

Why do I shop here? Because it's home. I worked here as a teenager30 years ago. I know quite a few of the employees. They have helped the community countless times. And I support local business. Sure, things might cost a little more there but for somebody to greet me by my name with a smile, I'll pay that extra cost.

Rude people that work there and the prices are out the roof. But for the people there that is the only place to shop or drive 25 miles. But in my case I will drive 25 miles to not be talked to rudely and you can keep your high price groceries

I work in a company where we serve clients seeking mental health treatment. We have a certain group of clients who visit this store regularly to obtain items they need. They are accompanied by staff. It has come to my attention that, while the store is physically handicap accessible, the staff working here display very terrible, judging, and impatient attitudes to those who are mentally disabled. Just because a disability is not always outwardly seen does not mean it is any less important to consider and, thus, offer the same hospitality and service to these individuals with a mental disability as would be done with those with physical disabilities. I have been notified that staff working here are very biased toward and intolerant of serving the mentally disabled. I have received verbal accounts of the observed behaviors and words exchanged with our clients who have mental disabilities. I have been told that there is a select few staff members who roll their eyes at, group up and talk about, and "serve" our clients with passive-aggressive and impatient behaviors when the clients are checking out their items/in line to do so. It has also been reported to me that at least one staff member working here (name unknown) has made a passive-aggressive comment to one of our clients who has a physical and mental disability and who requires patience and understanding when interacting with individuals they do not know/would not normally associated with. Per these verbal reports to me, this is obvious harassment of and displays of implicit bias during serving their "valued" customers, who have been long-standing customers here. This is a serious matter, a legal one, in discriminating against individuals with disabilities (any type of disability). The definition of ableism is prejudice or discrimination of those with disabilities. We, as staff of this agency, will begin to document these accounts as observed by other staff members and will pursue higher action if the problem persists or increases in severity.

I’ve shopped this grocery store for 40 years, and 30 of those years we lived in Bham area. The sales are awesome and can’t be beat on most items. Management does a great job in trying to accommodate the customers special request for items not carried in the store if possible. The meat dept. does such a great job in the selection, butchering, and packaging as requested if at all possible. They also work great with school students in being able to work for extra money and to learn some responsibility by hiring as many as they can. Can’t say enough about Gateway!

I looked at Foodland online and thought I would stop in there while I was over in Double Springs I thought the prices were better than what they were I didn't buy very much the prices were a little bit too high I can get better prices at Walmart thank you anyway

Clean store, easy to get in and out of the parking lot. Staff are helpful and friendly. Pretty good selection, some of the prices are a bit high. They also have a deli and make special occasion cakes. They accept cash, personal check, EBT cards, credit and debit cards.

A good selection at about what you would expect to pay for a rural grocery. Meat prices are typically lower here than in the nearest Wal-Mart, and vegetables/fruits run slightly higher. They have a meat department on staff, and will typically cut large roasts and meat to order. This store also has a deli, with a small selection of lunch meats and cheeses at reasonable prices. Rotisserie chicken is made every day as well.

I will not be shopping at this foodland anymore. They would not honor their temporary price reduction of bugles chips when I brought it to their attention. Its not the money, its the principle of the thing. This is not good business to treat customers like this. I spent almost 100.00 there but won't anymore. I'd advise people to go to Curry foodland instead of the one in Double Springs.

This is one of my favorite grocery stores. Some of the prices are a bit steep, but it's still a favorite. The store is always clean and stocked. Easily accessible with a large parking lot.
