As a vacationer, it’s great to have a convenience store on the island rather than having to drive all the way to Greers. On a few occasions we have needed quick access to meds and have been very thankful to have them so close otherwise you are taking quite the trip off the island. Yes, it is very expensive but honestly what do you expect. They have a captive audience and likely rely heavily on tourists. As for comments about rudeness, I have been going there for seven years (we come to the island every spring break) and have never encountered anyone unkind. I’d actually say that everyone has always been very very kind! The produce is pretty terrible but other than that it’s well stocked for a convenience store.

For all of those complaining about prices move around. IT'S AN ISLAND!!!! THEY ARE SAVING YOU A TRIP ACROSS THE BRIDGE!!! Do you think the stuff just magically appears on shelves. NO!!! It comes from different suppliers including trips to Walmart themselves. So why not be compensated for THEIR time and gas as well. As far as everyone complains on the island about this store, THAT IS NOT A TRUE STATEMENT AT ALL!!!! FYI they don't need your sarcastic attitudes in the store. They deal with enough things without you being ignorant and asking stupid questions. So the next time you guys want to bad mouth something make sure you know EXACTLY what you are taking about because all of the bad reviews and complaints are just people that got told NO when asked something!!!!!!

Great mini grocery store on the island. They literally have everything. Some produce, frozen food, canned food, souvenirs and a solid selection of beer and wine.

Nice little place. Lot's of different things, I didn't expect in a small store. Good not to have to leave the island. Just go here.

prices are a bit outrageous. their system is so outdated, too- though i'm assuming because of the accessibility during tropical storms and hurricanes. they put a lot of effort into it though, you can tell. definitely has everything you need to stay on the island, though! also they have a "mascot" heron named george- the feed him fresh fish nearly three times a day and he likes to pose for photos before chilling about in front or on top of the store. very cute!!!!

Prepare for the price markup when you go here. I'd like to think it's coming from them driving personally to other stores to get a lot of their merchandise. They pretty much do carry everything you might need to stay on the island tho. Employees were friendly also. Just rough paying 50 dollars for some eggs, syrup, pancake mix and bananas.

After several visits - Dirty, unorganized, overpriced, and unfriendly. So much for southern hospitality...

If they don't have it, it probably doesn't exist! It's a lot bigger than it looks from the road. Staff are great!

Amazing variety of items, it’s a grocery store/gas station/souvenir shop/hardware/liquor store in one. Staff is very friendly.

They have a little bit of everything!! Fresh fruits and veggies, toiletries, drinks, hardware, souvenirs, bathing suits,...... definitely your one stop shop for the island. They even have air to pump up any low tires after the drive!

We spend so much money in this store since our family lives down the street - went in the liquor store beside this place first because we didn’t think we needed anything in the main store. After buying the liquor , realized we did need something and ran in to grab it. At the register, this lady looks right at me and says “just so you know, you can’t bring liquor in here, I’m sure you aren’t from here and didn’t know”. Look lady, we are from here and stay here a lot since my father in law is a local so that means we spend a ton of money in your store. I bet liquor in a bag with a cork on it while in the store really does some damage?! Uncalled for. I’ll make sure to spend my money somewhere else after that stupid comment

They do carry about anything you’d need so you don’t have to go off island, just be prepared to fork out some money, prices are a bit high on just about everything but the cheap sunglasses.

Rude staff. They don't like outsiders I guess. I understand the love /hate relationship being a tourist destination. Without tourist dollars there would be a lot less revenue to go around down here. Prices are sky high but that's any island. Guess we will take our business to Dollar General from now on or drive to Greers. Sad because the location is perfect but I see a lot of people including locals don't seem to like them according to gossip around other local shops.

This is a nice little spot. While vacationing on the island, the first morning I was here I realized I brought coffee but not my sweetener. That’s kind of a bummer realizing that at 5:00am, because I love coffee with my beach waves and I thought there’s no way anyone will be open this early. I piddled around until about 7:00 and was headed out to the dollar general on the other side of the bridge, about 15 minutes away but right before I got on the bridge I thought “let’s just google real quick and see if there’s anywhere closer first” and that’s when Ship and Shore popped up. I had noticed the store on my way in but thought it was part of the liquor store. Anyway, I was happy to have found somewhere close by to get my items I had forgotten to bring. This store had anything I could’ve needed plus some. It’s like a Walmart, hardware store, and mini version of a bass pro all in one. The lady that was working was nice, helped me find an item I had overlooked and couldn’t find, and the prices of the items I bought were fair (same as if I were at Walmart) From what I could see, just about everything I buy at major stores back home was in this little store (grocery wise) Next time I visit, I will wait until I get here and get my groceries from this store instead of buying them back home and having them take up space in the car.

Get ready to be extorted. $9 for a TINY box of cereal. I'm sure the family size would be $15.This is a store with island import prices pretending they don't have a bridge to the mainland 2 miles away. I'll drive 30 minutes to Walmart next time.

They have a large selection and the staff was friendly. Everything in the place is double or triple what it should cost. I understand marking up items a little since they are the only store on the island, but this is highway robbery. $6.99 for a bag of flour, $4.50 for half a gallon of milk, and the cheese was so expensive I just skipped it. A tiny bag of the couple items we needed for Thanksgiving cost way more than it should have. Next time I will bring everything I could need before coming out on the island or I will go back to the mainland to a different store.

Don't know why people complain about the prices. It's a not very populated area on an island. The people were nice and helpful when I had questions about fishing gear. Also I have not seen such a good selection of beer in awhile.

These are the most rude people I've ever encountered in a store. They have no sense of basic communication skills. I've been vacationing here for 20 years and I can tell you I will drive 30 miles before I stop in this store. This place is an excellent location to service people with a smile and they totally missed the boat and the water. Please go elsewhere for your needs.

This place has the most RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL people working at their front counter… Their products are stale and out of date and they refuse to make good on it. We have been coming to dauphin island for over 10 years we have never experienced such rudeness from any other business on the island. We will never do business here again. I recommend driving about 15 mins off the island to Greers for any of your grocery needs!

All the employees are very friendly and helpful! Prices are super high! Being that there are no other grocery stores on the island they can get away with it...they do have just about anything you would need!

Doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's my favorite little convenience store. It has everything you could need (especially if you're forgetful like me haha) and more. The staff is always so nice as well.

Ship & Shore is really the only place to get groceries on the island. They also have bait and tackle in the back. They have a wide selection of different products with limited quantities. The staff is very nice. Be aware that you will pay much higher prices for products here.

Bait, tackle, hardware supplies, groceries, beer, wine, toilet paper, pretty much everything you need while on the island is at this store. It doesn't look like much from the road but it's huge inside.Do yourself a favor and stop in to get the lay of the land before you drive 30 minutes away to some big box place.

Rude and unhelpful. The definition of “captive audience” due to remoteness of island and zero alternatives. Tip: if you’re going to island, make sure you have EVERYTHING you need before you head to island, then you can avoid it. But if you’re reading this, you are probably already on island. Sorry.

Prices too high?!?!? Prices are pretty fair and You’re on an island, what do you expect? Everything is probably plus 1.50 what you would get at Walmart but still think about the costs they probably have to pay to get it out there.

Yes this store on Dauphin Island does have a few items to suit your ‘quick’ needs. I would not recommend shopping here due to overly priced items. I would drive back over the bridge and stop at dollar general. The staff was friendly and helpful.
