I have not adopted through this rescue but wanted to leave a positive review based on the responses to negative reviews by the rescue.I am so grateful and happy that this rescue does their due diligence when adopting out by checking to see if a potential adopter has returned or abandoned a previous pet, because that is a huge red flag for the adopter. And then a bonus red flag when you leave it out of your application.Pets are a lifetime commitment and if you aren’t ready to deal with difficulties then you shouldn’t have any pets.I also think that taking extra time to do all the background work and making sure the dog is good pet for the potential adopter shows that the rescue is responsible and they rather make sure that the pet goes to a good and responsible home so that they are not abandoned, neglected or returned.Especially due to the crisis that shelters are going through right now I’d like to express my gratitude for doing what feels like an impossible job, to looking out for the innocent pets that have usually been brought into this world due to irresponsible people wanting to make a profit. All while having a full time job.

There couldn't be nicer people taking care of these dogs! It was nice chatting with them and seeing first Hand, their devotion to all the animals they care for. ❤️

I’ve adopted a dog from TARP and provide support for other animals when able. I hold Tiffany there in high regard as she thinks of the animals first and foremost, which sometimes hurts peoples feelings. They give above and beyond many’s expectations to provide for abandoned, misplaced animals. Thanks for the job y’all do!!

Thank you for all of the contact and updates on how things are going with the adoption process. It was incredibly helpful. We only had to wait 14 days to still not hear back from you.Given how “smooth” everything went with you we’ve adopted elsewhere and encouraged 3 other families to not deal with your rescue and to look at other options.Wish you the best. If you’re swamped, I get it, but at least maintain some level of contact even if it’s a quick text. Treat your interested parties better, the animals deserve it to ensure they find forever homes.EDIT: My timeline was based off of not seeing any type of denial notification. If it was indeed sent out then they responded faster then I’ve alluded to.

My husband and I adopted a lab mix puppy from TARP back in April of 2020. She is an absolute joy and the happiest girl I’ve ever met. I am SO grateful to TARP for pulling her from a high kill shelter just in the nick of time. Everyone that we encountered at TARP through the adoption process was professional, kind, and helpful. TARP is a wonderful organization and we wouldn’t hesitate to adopt from them again!

On Saturday, I heard a meowing in our parents backyard. Two big dogs, snakes and other animals live in this same backyard so I was shocked to hear a cat. Upon looking I discovered a little kitten. Couldn’t have been more than 7 weeks old. I called every number I could find open on a Saturday and the only response I got was from Tiffany. She told me to text the address and she would try to get a volunteer. Unfortunately it was a Saturday so I know it must have been hard to find one. I spent several hours trying to get the kitten to come to me but it was terrified. I managed to get it used to me and was able to finally get the kitten in a carrier. Tiffany texted me back and sent me an address for drop off. They were the only shelter open on the weekends. I brought the kitten in and came during a cleaning day. The trailer the animals are kept in is definitely filled with cats and dogs but you could tell they were taken care of. Tons of food, fresh liter, and they were all clean. I have to say for a nonprofit shelter that’s runs on volunteers, and donations I am very happy with the service they provided and feel confident these animals are happy. Thanks again! Y’all are doing a wonderful service for these animals.Porsche M

Even the volunteers say that she is famous for not responding to texts and phone calls. They also have doubts she wants to find homes for the animals. It's like she wants to keep them all for herself as she brings in more every time she does let one get adopted. There is plenty of other shelters that are more professionally operated with better conditions for the animals. Avoid this place until the management is changed.

I know from personal experience that this rescue is amazing. I’ve been fortunate enough to see “behind the scenes” by volunteering, fostering, and building relationships with the people who run this rescue. Literally all of their free time is dedicated to the animals. They help every animal they can and ensure each animal goes to a home where they will be well taken care of instead of just adopting out to whoever says they want one. The animals are their very top priority! Each animal they adopt out is vaccinated and spayed/neutered. If you’re looking to adopt, foster, or volunteer, this is the place to go. I will always recommend TARP!

Absolutely one of best adoption experiences. Tiffany is kind, helpful, genuinely loves all of the rescues and goes above and beyond to follow up on the adopted pets. Tiffany and TARP will always be a God send to our family!

Nothing short of horrible to work with. Been trying to adopt a cat that has been in a cage at the pet store for over a month. Impossible to get a hold of anybody about the cat and the pet store won't release the pet without permission from this rescue agency. Don't give up on rescuing Animals but you may want to look elsewhere.

Kennels were clean. All had fresh water. No evidence of illness in the area. Odor not excessive for the amount of animals on the property. People very helpful.

I applaud the efforts of young ladies working so hard there. Please, if you can take in an animal, and give that animal the love and security and stable home, then go here now. These animals need good homes. With Christmas coming up, please don't "gift" an animal to someone. That animal is not an object to give as a gift. If someone you know wants an animal, take them to pick it out on their own. Share tge experience.

I've worked with Tiffany and know her to be a great advocate for the animals. The amount of time and effort going into TARP plus handle everything else I'm sure can be taxing but she handles it well. She'll be the first call when we decide to adopt.

BEYOND grateful to have this rescue in the Wiregrass! We would be lost without TARP! They rescue those others have forgotten. They rescue those that others find too costly. They rescue those that might not make it. They do it because they have THE MOST compassionate hearts.I respect the heck out of this rescue! Please consider adopting, volunteering, or donating to this rescue. True heroes that work everyday to try and save them all!

Based SOLELY on their lack of communication. I reached out via PetFinder, their posted phone number, direct email, AND Facebook - regarding 4 different puppies at 4 different times. The only response I received was "I have sent this to Tiffany". Never heard back through any platform. If you've had a good interaction with them, tgats awesome. Again, this is based SOLELY on their complete lack of communication. I never got any further in the process to review anything else.

I frequently volunteer with TARP, and I love it. This rescue takes in the animals that others have abandoned, forgotten, or given up on. I'm a huge cat person, so I usually work with them-- The cats are kept in separate crates to prevent disease spread and cat fights. It makes the shelter less hectic and allows each animal to truly have individalized care. When I visit communal shelters in Troy, there is often feces on the floor and covering some of the oldest residents. The times I've visited, the cats also had cuts and sores, and their food was always empty. It hurt my heart to see animals in that condition-- so although crates may seem odd if you're used to communal cat rooms, this animal lover thinks the animals are much better off. There is so much I could say about TARP, but I would turn into a rambling mess. So many lives saved, so many tummys are filled.

I'm not posting this without a lot of thought. I'm honestly apalled by the good reviews, and the fact that no one has mentioned the conditions that these animals, particularly the cats, live in.Firstly, I understand a no kill shelter will have a high volume of animals, but this place needs to close their intakes for a while until they get their operations under control. I went looking for a cat or kitten and was shocked- couldn't get out of their fast enough. The cats live in a trailer and in a shed. The rooms were dingy and dirty, with spent litter and urine on the floor. The cat shed itself was in better condition, but still pretty dirty. Cats were kept in black wire crates, stacked one on top of the other--floor to ceiling. Not structurally sound; one good cat fight could topple a whole stack. It was apparent some of the cages had not been cleaned that day or in several days. Some cages had up to three cats inside sharing one small litter box. Several cat's behinds were caked in their own filth, unable to adequately move around. As far as I could see, the dogs were kept better. I was already headed to my car at that point. Couldn't support this kind of place. Since I already have a cat at home, I didn't want to bring home a possibly sick animal. I understand accidents happen and animals poop, but it should never be matted and dried into their fur like that. It had been there for a while. If you go on Facebook you will see that pictures of new adoptees are taken outside; I feel this is deliberate to hide the rooms the cats live in. The only positive thing I can think of is that the cats seemed in OK spirits and were not underfed.Maybe it wasn't always this bad. I'm not sure, I'm new to the area. I implore the people who run this rescue to stop biting off more animals than you can competently take care of. Just because you're no kill does not excuse neglected animals. In fact the only reason I'm giving two stars is the no kill status. It doesn't have to be like this. If you like professional, brick and mortar, hygenic shelters? I reccomend Pike Animal Shelter.

Absolutely the hardest working rescue in AL. They take on the hardest medical cases that the others can't attempt. Tiffany Howington, Melissa Boatner, Ricky Davis and ALL of the staff go above and beyond any dedication I've ever seen. I'm honored to know and respect them for what they are.. TRUE RESCUERS. Tiffany fights for all animals with two feet, four feet, with shells and beeks. You name it and she's going to help it. They are a level that makes other rescues jealous . 💕Thank you so much for all your hard work.Suzi Mccall

Because you have to leave a star rating but I wouldn’t give this business a star if not for that. Tiffany is absolutely rude and disrespectful. She ignores customers and blocks them from contacting her. She lies about responses she has sent and doesn’t return your call. She gives the excuse of having a full time job for her blatant disrespectful unprofessional behavior. She just crushed a 15 year old little girls heart of adopting a bunny that needs a home all because Tiffany can’t conduct herself as an adult. Tiffany doesn’t know how to speak with people and shouldn’t be allowed to handle customers.Tiffany as you can see my name clearly has a t and not a b. As rude as you are I can understand that it doesn't matter to you. You aren't sorry that I feel that way. You are who you are and you could care less about the people you speak with. You are snarky and absolutely rude. Now, I will allow whatever I choose to have my 15 year old to do. DON'T YOU DARE ADVISE ON WHAT I SHOULD DO WITH MY CHILD! If you were a polite and nice person that is something that you could've explained to her but instead you chose not to. YOU DIDN'T CONTACT ME BACK TO EXPLAIN IT TO ME. By the way, I DID NOT CONTACT YOU 13 TIMES SO EXPLAIN WHY YOU DIDN'T RESPOND! You can't because it is just in your nature to do so. You treat people any damn way you choose because you don't have to answer to anyone but karma comes around swiftly my dear. STOP LYING!!! I LOOKED AT HER PHONE AND SHE DIDNOT CALL YOU 13 TIMES IN 32 MINUTES! YOU REALLY DON'T MIND LYING ON KIDS I SEE! I NEVER SAID THAT I FOUND ACCEPTABLE SO DON'T YOU DARE TELL A LIE ON ME. I SAID I WOULDN'T GET UPSET AND BLOCK A PERSON THAT I WOULD EXPLAIN TO THEM NOT TO DO SO. THEN YOU STATED THAT YOU DID TEXT HER THAT WHICH IS ANOTHER LIE BECAUSE YOU NEVER TEXTED HER BACK. YOU ARE A LYING UNPORFESSIONAL B WORD! NOW YOU HAVE A GOOD DAY!
