Our go-to pet store! We have 2 cats and 1 dog so we are grateful to have such an awesome pet supply store that is near by and has everything we need! The owner and staff and are knowledgeable and always friendly! We have had our 2 year old dog since she was 8 weeks old and shepherd’s has had everything we have needed for her at every stage of life. And always a plus to support a local business!!

They're going out of business after many years in Avondale!! They will be greatly missed!! Today, April 19th, is their last day open!! You can still stop by and get your last visits in before they are closed permanently!!

This small local business is amazing and the staff go out of there way to help serve the end users. Prices are more than Amazon and Walmart this is true. But name the last time you were able to talk to JeffB or a Waltons about any of the products in there stores? Will often reminds me of what food my dog eats. Will and staff are an amazing asset and resource in our community, thank you Shepard's Pet Supply.

They don't back up their products. Bought a retractable leash from here that was 3x market value. It lasted 2 weeks, and they weren't willing to work with me. Shame, they would have gotten a lot more business from me since it's the closest pet store to me. Edit: when I say 3x market value I mean I can get one at Walmart that lasts as long for $10, why stock a $30 leash if they won't guarantee it, that was the only kind you sell from what I saw. Here is the photo you wanted, my dog chewed on the mechanism sure, but it's the end that connects to the collar that broke off that annoys me update #2: this Walmart flexi price

Great selection! Sheppard’s was fantastic. Felt like a regular from the second I walked in. I will definitely be coming back for training treats, but they had incredible products, matched by the exceptional customer service!

This is definitely a small business and I am used to more of a surplus store. It was a convenience stop here because it was close to home. We pulled up at 415 and there was a sign on the door stating it was a one man show and he would return around 430. So we decided to wait and stayed even though he was late. So essentially we waited almost thirty minutes. Once he showed up and we were finally inside he had a very small selection and pretty much anything besides food was overpriced. Also he made a snide remark to me when I inquired about his selection of dog food. He wasn’t very helpful when I asked about his selection of dog treats. I didn’t feel welcomed at all. He had regulars in there at the time that he gave great service too. I don’t want to assume it was because I was the only Black in the store. I had my children with me so I didn’t care much. If I’m desperate again for dog food I’ll probably return.

To the reviewer who left a one star review because they wouldn't let him return a leash that was defective. This is a picture of the leash that they tried to return. What kind of person a. tries to return this leash for being defective and b. then leaves a bad review on line? Safe to say the poster is not that credible.

Everything you need for your pet. The owner is very helpful and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this place. Sadly, the store is going out of business.

Great local business with a super congenial and helpful business owner! There are so many great things about this store. Supporting local products (they also have many well-established brands), hosting low-cost vet services frequently, and the adorable shop cat are the first things that come to mind. And if you buy a heavy bag of dog food, the owner will carry it out to the car for you. If only all businesses could have this level of personalized attention and service!

Sheppard's is indispensable! Will and his staff are great. Declan the store cat always follows me wherever I go in the store. The selection of food, treats, toys, bowls, and various other accessories are not only just as good as the big name stores, I feel far greater confidence in each product stocked here because I know they were chosen by a true pet lover and not someone only looking out for the bottom line.Everything I have purchased here over the last several years has been of the highest quality and has been used to the fullest, unlike some "deals" I've found at bigger places. And did I mention that you get to socialize with an awesome cat while you shop? I'll usually zip through most stores of any type as quickly as I can, but Sheppard's is so warm and inviting that I sometimes lose track of time because I actually enjoy being there.

I have since moved away from Birmingham but wanted to come back to say that Will at Sheppard’s Pet Supply is a great person and made the entire store feel very welcoming. I appreciated how safe he was throughout COVID and couldn’t recommend this place any more. Highly recommend!

I went by Sheppard's curbside set-up today to pick up a cone for my recently spayed pup. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or wonderfully kind. I wasn't sure which size my dog would need, so they sent me home with 2 sizes and told me to bring back whichever I didn't need later in the week. The whole curbside experience was fast, convenient, and pleasantly neighborly. It was such a nice reminder as to why shopping local rules!

Located just down the hill from our shop in Avondale- Shepherd’s has taken care of all our fur babies needs. I love being able to patron a local business on the regular for something as simple as dog food. I’m always greeted with a genuine smile, speedy service and a helpful hand to my car which is much appreciated being pregnant with a toddler in tow.
