I have been going to this Petco for years and it has progressively gotten worse as time goes on. The quality of care the animals receive has deteriorated to the point that it makes me upset to even see them. The previous animal manager did an amazing job but since she has left it has been pure neglect. The mice were in terrible shape. Even if they are meant as feeders they should still be taken care of until then. There were many mice with large open wounds on their backs due to overcrowding (which is against policy. Overstock animals are supposed to be put in the back). There was also a very obviously pregnant female mouse in with a bunch of male mice (which is against petco policy and basic mouse care). This is the second time over the span of multiple weeks that i have come in and seen injured animals. Animals are not just merchandise to be put on a shelf and forgotten about. I’ve already called corporate but im leaving this review to let other customers know that this store doesn’t care about animals. I’ve also talked to the workers and nothing has been done.

Zerica has been grooming my golden doodle for almost 4 years and she never disappoints. She grooms him exactly how I ask and does so in a timely manner. I highly recommend Zerica!

The best Petco location in the Birmingham area! The people are very kind and the store is immaculate. I love the setup and will make this my go to store in the future for my Pygmy Possums food!

Your associates are not that friendly or knowledgeable. They spend entirely too much time playing on their phones. And you are THE ONLY retailer that charges for a bag. You are going to loose customers doing this. We are NOT in California and you're company is just being greedy.

Dropped off my dog @8am for her grooming appointment (just a bath, no cut) and was told they were not sure when they would START or finish. They said it would be about 3 hours (for a bath) and I asked that they call me 30 mins before she's ready. I called at 12pm (4 hours later, gave them plenty of time) asking for an update and they said she was already ready to pick up and someone was supposed to call me but no one did. I show up and she is still wet and not ready. They asked to bring her back for them to finish and I told them everything I just typed. And they still asked if I wanted to tip. Hated the experience here. You would think they knew the definition of an appointment.

They sold me a male guinea pig when I wanted a female. Then when I called to see if I could return it or exchange it they said they couldn’t take him back. So now I’m stuck and don’t know what to do cause I have three females.

I was pleased with groomer today,the check out people looked rough. They said aren’t you going to give a tip.I always tip,I had cash in my hand. They don’t need to ask.Probably will not be back.

I went into the Hoover location on Black Friday and a manager refused to give me an aquarium that was in the black Friday ad for the black Friday price. This manager also refused to come out and speak with me. I’ve spoke with corporate multiple times and nothing is being done about this. I do not recommend going here. This is the worst place you could ever go if you want to be treated the like a decent human being!!!!!!!

They are kind when you come in and need any help. Got my boy some food and a toy. Clean inside, food signs up to let you know where your food is located. I'll give this a 2 thumbs up 👍🏿👍🏿

Zerica is so great with my dog Creed! Not many dogs are happy to go to the groomers, but Creed lights up like a Christmas Tree whenever he sees Zerica waiting for him. 10 out 10 would recommend!

Zerica at Petco in the Grove has been grooming my dog for many months. She does a consistently great job and Sky always looks beautiful when I pick her up. Zerica greets me and my dog by name when I arrive (which I appreciate). When I pick up my dog after grooming she already has her next appointment scheduled…what great service!! I highly recommend Zerica!! She is awesome!!

Employees are not knowledgeable about fish or the tanks. Then they are rude because they are not trained correctly. This was my first time going to Petco. And it will be the last. Especially this location. Petsmart is my go to!

I was really disappointed to see the way the fish were cared for or lack there of. Dead ones. Unclean beta bowls. We watched one that looked like it was in the process of dying from lack of oxygen.

I was asked if I needed help and the employee went above and beyond trying to find the food I was looking for. Then we discussed animal nutrition and, after the conversation, I ended up switching food for both my dog and cats. Great experience and I'll definitely be back!

Best of the local big box stores. If you are a fish keeper there is a big selection of fresh water, salt water, and live plants. All the tanks are clean and well stocked.

Went to petco today for shrimp, snails and plants! So extremely satisfied! Tanya helped us and answered all my questions and made sure I got what I wanted. She was simply the best and it's people like her that are the reason I make the almost hour drive here! 💗

Kudos to Ronnie, store manager at PetCo in "TheGrove", Hoove. Also much appreciation to John at Petco Phone Support. My pet gate I bought earlier in the year broke. John contactacted Ronnie's store to deliver a replacement gate at no charge. Petco, Ronnie & John Thank-you!

Average Petco. No particularly stellar difference in anything compared to most other Petcos. Store is clean, staff is polite, courteous, helpful, and every person I've spoken to has been knowledgeable.I'm an aquarist and cat owner. The bettas are pretty badly neglected, and the Glo-Fish bettas on the side of the store are clearly forgotten about, considering at least half were floating carcasses, and the rest emaciated. I found one exceptionally beautiful dragon scale betta, though. He may still be there.

We had an appointment to have our dog groomed. Showed up for the appointment to be told. “I know you have an appointment. Unfortunately, your groomer is not here today so we cannot groom your dog.” Mind you we have taken 2 dogs to this same location for years every 5 weeks. They refused to work with us even though this was clearly a mistake made on Petco’s behalf. We will not be back to Petco.

I took my son in to purchase fish. Literally was ignored by the lady that was standing in the fish area. When another family walked in behind me that did not look like me, she perked up and asked if they needed help. We ended up leaving. The store was clean though.

All the the employees walk around and just look unhappy. Never ask if I needed assistance. Then at checkout I was asked if I wanted a bag. Then was told that they charge for bags. A simple bag to carry my merchandise out cost extra! If things don't change I won't be back.

My experience was pretty normal. You know, run in and grab something warm for the fur babies to wear real quick and 1 hour later...😆 The good news is we caught a buy1get1 free sale on their jacket and sweater we purchased for our pups. I also wanted to purchase some boots for them, but I wasn't able to get a clear answer from one of the employees about the fit for my Staffordshire Terrier so I saved that $$ for another day. They had good prices on pet toys, so I grabbed a few of those instead. Conveniently located right next door to a few other well-known department stores, Petco is alright with me.

The selection for pet food and toys and cat litter are very good. The prices are fair. The employees are always helpful and friendly.I would give 4 stars but there is something that sort of disturbs me about selling animals in a store. They all look healthy I think the must be taken care of I just am kind of sensitive to that kind of thing. Saying that I think the occasionally do work on getting cats and dogs adopted off of the street. I'm not sure which organization they work with. But that is a great step to help with the ones that need homes.And I anyone is reading this far I hope that it helps. And actually I will go ahead with the 4th star since Petco does work on pet adoption programs.

Their fish aquariums are always well maintained and clean. I love looking at the reptiles. Please go and adopt them.😊
