There’s a plethora of reasons this bar is in the running for “best in America”, but let me break it down for you as to why that is with some context and detail.A bar is a bar is a bar, by the same name in any city in America, until you walk in to Hop city. It isn’t a bar. It’s an adult theme park.First, the lively atmosphere and surroundings feel homey, but not cluttered. It gives you that nice warm welcoming vibe without the intrusion of over zealous sales associates.But if you need them, they’re always there to help and are EXTREMELY knowledgeable.And what on earth do I mean? Isn’t this just a bar? Absolutely not. It’s a wine Mecca, massive bar, and they even have food trucks come on many nights during the week.Their wine selection is quite frankly…. The best in the city. Ranging from your $10 basic wines, to my favorite the conundrum red at the perfect $21 price, all the way to your extremely rare $200 2015 Italian limited editions on the back wall. Every region is represented perfectly, and they even stock the best ice wine in the world (my humble opinion as a wine blender). Northern Canadian at under $100. That is an INCREDIBLE deal.But this is just the first half of the building.Between the bar and the wine section lies the beer shelves, and oh WOW is it a selection. Every possible kind of beer is represented. I’m partial to sours and ciders myself, but they simply don’t miss anywhere.Want to make a personalized pack of singles? You can take ANYTHING apart to make your own custom 4 pack. All the local breweries and beers are represented… and 100s nationwide.And then…. There’s the actual bar. It’s huge. And the taps literally run from one side of the building to the other. There are so many to choose from, finding only one to try will be impossible.Complete with dogs to pet, an amazing revamped patio with fire pit, AND in the pepper place district of Birmingham, this IS the best place for libations in the city.Have fun at the theme park… you’ll stay for hours.

This is a great place to get a beer and with 60 taps you are bound to find something you like. However, in the event that you don't there is a large selection of bottles and cans to choose from such as imports, domestics, and local breweries with some being already chilled. This is great as you can purchase a single beer to try rather than buying a six pack and finding out you don't like it. I got a draft and wandered the aisles picking out the single beers to take home. There is a good selection of wine as well and a patio outside to enjoy the weather and your beverage of choice.

They have a great selection of take away beers and wine at this bottle shop. Staff was super friendly. Lots of beers on tap too. Gonna have to stop by and have a drink sometime!

We swung by here before a concert at iron city .They have a nice size bar with about 60 beers on tap. There is a huge selection of all types of craft beer and wine from all over the place including international. In house draft beer is very reasonable price. They had my favorite beer on tap Kentucky bourbon vanilla. Great place.

Since this place was named “Hop City” I fully expect there to be some rabbits here, so I was a bit disappointed when I arrived to see there were no rabbits, but they most definitely had an awesome selection of beer, and an awesome staff!!

Top Notch. Good selection and great service. Stocked up on Alabama beers to bring to Atlanta and was pointed the direction of various local, fresh releases from staples like Good People to some new breweries in the area. Huge draft list to sample before filling up your cart with sixers or individual bottles and cans.

They have an outstanding selection and very knowledgeable employees that are a pleasure to interact with. But make sure to bring your wallet because outstanding selection and quality will cost you. My only warning is if you get a beer on tap ask price, I had an 8oz for $12 while a friend got a 12oz for $7 which is much more reasonable.

Place is great. Awesome selection of beers both on tap and to buy and take home. Their flights aren't cheap but pretty much everything about the place is awesome. Highly recommended if you enjoy beer.

Finally got to experience this fine brewpub. They've got about 60 craft beers on tap, many of which they sell in store to take home. Service is excellent, and you're talking to bartenders who are intimately acquainted with the fare and can speak intelligently about it, not just some goons who pop a top and think that deserves a $5 tip. Their reps curate craft beer from around the country, and as a result they have an impressive collection of not only local and state brews, but great stuff from all over the country. Try the Maine Lunch!

Parking is less than desirable. There is no designated spot for walk up orders, so be prepared to shoulder your way to the bar and yell over the crowd to place your order. Most aggressive orders taken first so plan to get cozy with strangers. Great selection of to go products for the after party at the house. Dont show up hungry, food truck traffic is unreliable at best.

The best place to buy beer in Birmingham, hands down. Has the widest selection of craft beers I've seen in the city, and the employees are all very knowledgeable of their selections. HG in particular has always been very sweet and helpful when recommending beers to my partner and I!In addition to the hundreds options they have in cans and bottles, they have 60+ drinks on tap to try. I always love drinking a couple 5oz glasses of beer while I create my own six packs. Large wine selection as well, though I can't speak on the specifics personally as I'm not wine guy.

Been visiting here this place for almost 10 years now and I've got to say that the staff has been a biga part as to why I come back, I know most of them by name and they always greet my husband and I with a great attitude. They have a smorgasbord of beer and wines to choose from and are always giving me something new to try. I can also appreciate the fact that they often have wine tastings and food trucks set up outside if you're hungry.
