Where they do have a better selection than a few other dollar generals, the employees are the worst. You can only use the self checkout. Which honestly I’m ok with, but at this store, the registers are normally always out of paper, bags or the register was used but a transaction wasn’t completed so you can’t just start scanning things. Now this by itself wouldn’t be horrible but when you go to the register that requires an employee, they are normally sitting by the office on their phones. You can ask them to check you out and they response with “you paying with cash?” The answer for me is no. I pay with a card. They then ALWAYS tell me “then use the self checkout” to which if they hadn’t been sitting there playing on their phones they would know there was an issue. So instead of ringing me or anyone else up, they go investigate with a loud sigh and roll their eyes. They go and realize, ah yes the 3 open self check outs are currently having an issue. They fumble around for a while and get one working and tell me to use that one. Almost implying there was never an issue. I wouldn’t write a review if it was a one off, because stuff happens and I understand, but this has happened the last 5 out of 6 times I’ve gone. That seems like a lot and 6 of of 6 times I rang up myself. Never once did they bother to ring me up and then go fix the issue. Anyways it’s at best a 2 star store due to having more than 60% of the shelves stocked.

This Dollar General located I wouldn't recommend to anyone who's in a wheelchair or has trouble walking or even someone who has no trouble walking down isles. It's completely NOT POSSIBLE AT THIS LOCATION TO WALK DOWN ANY ISLES. The store is in such disarray that at this point I believe it's a hazard. I actually heard a customer say her daughter she had to quickly leave the store due to she suffers from anxiety and not having room to walk down the isles ALONG WITH BOXES ON TOP OF BOXES put her in a panic state. There hours differ daily today they close at 2pm. The amount of unopened supplies is a huge 😳 problem. I visited the location over a week ago and assumed it just hadn't been stocked yet but today I see it's just not being done. So they're stacking supplies anywhere there's space and from my experience there's no more room to stack. This means there's ABSLOUTLY NO INVENTORY ON SHELVES. I wasn't able to buy any items I needed 😪. Be careful if you use this location it's a accident waiting to happen. Along with us customers that use this location currently can't buy from this store due to wall to wall unopened supplies. I don't recommend using The Dollar General at this location. I give this location a 1 outta 10 due to the dangerous conditions at this location. The Restrooms are not usable due to the filthy conditionsPersonally a huge clean up would maybe have me visit the store again.I said MAYBE. I found absolutely 💯 nothing that I could say nice or that I can say was in working condition from staff to supplies to using the facilities. WOW IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE TRULY UNBELIEVABLE. 😳

I am through with Dollar General or DG Market. They changed their name and from what I saw doubled the prices. Not only that, but this store is poorly organized and just a mish mach of stuff. Never again. I will stick with Dollar Tree even Publix is cheaper than this place. Beware if you're on a budget!

This location definitely needs more cash registers or more employees up front. Seems like each time that I have visited there has only been one person or sometimes nobody at the register with the lines of customers backed up. Overall the store is a little cluttered but usually well-stocked.

I've always loved Dollar General and this particular store is no exception! They have GREAT sales and dont mind answering questions when you call to see if the sale items are still in stock. The salespersons and genuinely helpful in directing you to merchandise in the store instead of just pointing. And to top all that, clean and orderly is a definite must here!!

Some of the cashiers and one manager in particular can be very rude and standoffish, but good selections and great prices.FYI- The store on John's rd, does not sell CV clothes or shoes anymore. They have a few items still from previous orders but once that's gone, there will be no more clothing or shoes.

Saw there add for patio pillows was very nickey priced ..None of the workers knew anything about the ad ..lol.I purchased some other Items and was ok. They need to tidy up a little not very neat Cashier was greatAsked if they had a public restroom they said it was out and said they have to go to the laundry mat across the way..oh well ..Mz .B Bessemer Al

This is a nice Dollar General. The store itself is really big.. They have a large selection of merchandise and the cashier and manager were both very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this DG to anyone in the Bessemer area...

The Dollar General store I went to was in Bessemer Alabama Donna had one cashier on a Saturday and it was late by the time I went it was a Sunday morning and they only had one cashier and it was a lot of people in there. How ever did twice that I went there everybody will mass and social distancing I really did appreciate that thumbs up great job Dollar General

This is the largest in the area, and was very clean! We didn't have any trouble or have to walk around boxes and misplaced displays like you do at the others. The sales staff was helpful and they were also very efficient. Will be shopping here from now on!

I love the staff, they are always friendly greet you and eager to help. The only thing I dislike is the disorganization of the whole store there are boxes everywhere and stuff it's never in the right place. Given the disorganization I will still frequency store

The clerks weren't friendly. And she didn't have the most chipper disposition for someone in a customer service position. And lately the digital coupons haven't been working for me. I'd input my number but nothing comes off. Where are my savings?

The Dollar general is struggling with their inventory it's all out in the aisles they can't seem to get it put up in time before another truck comes and then they got it all piled in the house again I don't know if it's a need more help or the help they got is not working hard enough they may need to check into hiring some more people to just help unload the truck and to stock maybe a different hours have someone come in and stock at night and that way everything won't be in the way because you can't get down the aisles because of all the stock buggies that are in the way and the vendors that are in there are changing things around they don't know anything about the store at all they just in there doing their job putting out material so that be something for you corporate to look at cuz it's not just the Dollar general here in McCalla or in Bessemer it's Dollar general's everywhere it seems like they have strong a struggle putting the stock up inventory up when they when the truck comes in

$1 Apple Cranberry juice. The store need to over stock this product because they are always sold out. The cashiers are too slow. You have to wait in line too long. They are set ul with 3 casb registers with one cashier and 2 others are standing and talking not waiting on customers. This is the Pleasant Grove location

Convenient because I live next door. Great spot to hit when I don't want to go to Wal-Mart or Aldi. However, to me there is always only one cashier. So the 5 stars is for convenience.

Horrible. It was 8:50 pm and the doors were already locked. What made it worst is that there were 2 employees looking out the door, proceeded to walk to the back of the store and there were customers outside. Then called the store and they didn't answer. Will definitely be sending an email to Distract Manager and Corporate. Poor customer service and business practices

The cashier was friendly.. A male worker was cleaning off a register and almost popped trash on me. It's a better way of cleaning the registers than the way he we cleaning them.

The ladies working makes this place a pleasurable experience all the way around. Aubry the manager has really transformed this store in a dicey neighborhood into like a hometown store where the service is friendly and they take the time to speak acknowledge and get to know their customers

Customer service leaves a lot to be desired. When did it become fashionable to make customers wait in a line that stretched near the back of the store while you put merchandise on the shelves?

Manager flowed me and wife out too our car like we were stealing tried. To write down tag number got out the car to ask her was she's looking for us she proceeded to ask us to leave the store we was harassing her left the store got down by Walmart so the police flying bye went back up to the store to ask what was going on the police officer said he got a call over. For for dispute and found the store there started this we asked him was what was it about told the police officer what happened and he suggested we just not shop there customer service not good at all

Worst store in Bessemer!!!!MANAGERS...........LAZY AS HECK, NEVER THERE AND WHEN SHE IS SHE IS NO DAMN HELP.ASSOCIATES..........LAZY AS HECK, NEVER SMILE, NEVER SPEAK, NOT WILLING TO ASSIST CUSTOMERS.This entire store is very UNPROFESSIONALThey only have one register open 10 out of 10 times your there shopping and the manager/associate will not open another register to help decrease the long line. Customer service is not their strong point at all.You lead by example if the MANAGER IS LAZY THEN YOUR ASSOCIATES WILL BE LAZY.THE ONLY REASON FOR THE ONE STAR IS TO WRITE THIS REVIEW OTHERWISE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BLANK STARS.
