I was at this store on Saturday evening, there were 2 adult men play fighting with 2 large stuffed animals. An employee made a laughing comment to the effect of “how old are you”. The men both smiled at the employee and said in Spanish that they did not speak English, the employee said she didn’t speak Spanish and that was the entire exchange. I hate how people just say whatever behind a keyboard to be mean to an employee that is just doing their job. I’ve always found the employees to be very helpful and kind. Especially the lady that handles the books.

I came in recently with my family and during checking out there was an elderly lady worker with a Jamie Lee Curtis haircut that started racially profiling and approaching two Hispanic men that were not doing anything wrong they were literally looking at stuffed animals and kids clothes.. So out of nowhere she gets in their face asking for their age and if they speak English and they politely said no sorry and cusses them out still getting irritated with them for no reason and tells another coworker to “watch them” as she goes in the back. I don’t know what happened after, but the entire hour or so I was there she was yelling at people for touching items, yelled at someone for wanting to try on clothes, and the racial incident with these two guys. Overall, I put all my stuff back because I’m not finding a RACIST store. I’ve never had bad experiences at Goodwill worker wise, but this lady needs to be fired. There’s many testimonies on a Facebook thread about the Athens location on how she profiles certain people including testimonies from people that’s worked with her and it’s clearly anyone that isn’t white, is her target. Discrimination at its finest.

We will never shop at this location again. Went with my family and I have never experienced such rudeness at a business in my life. Staff cursing out loud in front of children, talking about customers (loud enough to be heard from a good distance) with the manager standing right beside them and didn't say a word, we left our stuff and walked out. Definitely need better management and staff if you want this location to thrive.

Used to love Goodwill especially at their old location when prices were reasonable however over the last year at their new location they WAY overprice items it’s honestly getting ridiculous. Very Greedy is what it is and ever since their Goodwill finds website launch all name brand stuff is pulled and sold at basically new prices online. They pull stuff that isn’t even that great at stores either and overprice it. I miss the old goodwill where everything no matter the brand or size or condition was like $2.99 or $4.99 it’s sad that merchandise that’s donated that they have ZERO money in is so overpriced. I used to get so excited when I’d find a good deal on a north face jacket or Nike shirt, now it’ll at least be $20 which isn’t even a deal. Overall the new store is clean and the staff is nice they just need to quite overpricing stuff then I might would purchase more from here. I do shop here at least once a week and it has gotten higher by the week it seems. Today I went in and they had some used adidas lunchboxes that were stained for $15.99 like that’s absurd and a pair of used heydudes for $60!?!?!? I purchased new ones for around $40. INSANE price gauging. Corporate definitely getting rich off people that’s for sure!!

I like the Goodwill, BUT sometimes they have prices as if they are selling from a new store. This store is made for people on a tight budget. With that said, some stuff is at a decent price though. They do have a big selection of stuff. The workers are also friendly. I would recommend trying them out if you need something or want to shop around.

I love this goodwill, I travel from Huntsville to come here specifically. Unfortunately the new staff is disappointing. I find them lazy if you ask for something, they don’t seem to want to get it. They are also short with customers if questions are asked. This makes the environment uninviting. I’ve gauged this over the last few visits. The worst of it all, if it’s near closing time they turn off the lights while customers are inside and claim registers shut off “on there own” at exactly seven. I’m just disappointed I spend money here weekly and if it weren’t for the quality of the items I would stop coming to this location all together.

My wife and I visited the Goodwill Store in Athens, Alabama on a recent Thursday afternoon when we found one of the local Madison thrift shops closed. Goodwill is a non-profit business that trains and provides people in the community with jobs. Several years ago the store seemed overloaded with clothing racks and was difficult to get around. It has since been re-arranged so there is plenty of space between the clothing racks.Some of the items's prices are higher than I would expect but over all their prices are reasonable. There is a good variety of mens, women's and children clothing. There are miscellaneous house wares, shoes, books and knick nacks.Since we live in Madison it is a little bit of a drive to the Athens Goodwill but we try to go at least every 3-4 months. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is a two room changing room to try before you buy. The floor and the racks are clean and well maintained.Goodwill operated a nicely run thrift store and does great things for the local community.

I love going to thrift stores. I went this time to look for some cargo pants or capris & T-shirts for work. They didn't have anything I could or would wear. I know these things are a hit and miss. The store was dirty and everything was just so unorganized it was crazy. I've worked at a thrift store before and know firsthand how hectic they can be. But this was the worst I've ever saw it at this location!

$75 for a used rocking chair that's falling apart and $20 for a pair of shoes with the sole coming off that they had donated for free is crazy to me for a non profit organization.

Have came here a few times in the past. I just feel the need to say this. The prices are outrageous for what it is. Sure some is probably worth it but nothing at a thrift store should cost over 20 bucks. Just my opinion which some may hate but its whatever. 50 bucks for a hot wheels car that's missing pieces. 80 bucks for 6 glasses and a candy dish. I've noticed alot of stuff still sitting from the last time I came. Anyways the employees are friendly. I know people will say they have to pay for power and employees but still donated stuff shouldn't cost more than 20 bucks. I can see furniture being priced more but still

The craziest prices I’ve ever seen at any goodwill. I travel a lot for work and stop at A LOT of goodwill stores. Average pair of converse chucks $40?! Who’s pricing this stuff?The store itself is really nice, clean and organized. I’m surprised they’re still in business though. Even at 50% off day, if they do that here the prices are still insane. Greedy management.

This goodwill is unorganized. I picked up 2 different knee braces they had no price tag on them. When I went to the register to pay for them they told me since there was no price on them they couldn’t sell them. I informed them that there were several more with no price tags on them I was told “ Oh really go bring them to me “. I told them that maybe they should just do their job and get them their selves. This was the manager that I was talking to. I will never go there again

Checked the hours and saw they were open, drove 30 min to donate a car full of stuff. Then was told they weren’t open for donations. Their hours and page need to be more clear about this! It’s very frustrating to waste so much time on my day off to be sent away.

Was shopping today in Athens. Stuffed toys in playpen. Started digging and had a slight avalanche. An employee came by and asked me to clean up the stuffed toys (while I was still looking) off the floor. I’m an adult (54). I do not need to be told to clean up when I’m done. I always do. It really embarrassed me and made me mad. I asked another employee to see the manager. She told me I had to say please. The manager was very nice and said that employee had a tendency to speak that way. I’ll continue to shop but some shoppers were really stunned at her behavior. I love this store. Very clean and have never had an associate breeze by and tell me to clean.

They are really lacking in kid clothes, but when I tried to donate children's clothes a few weeks ago they told me they "had so many" they were literally throwing them away ! And yet I couldn't find anything near my son's age. If you decide to donate go somewhere that will appreciate the items.

I have been consistently overcharged here. Double check your receipts before you leave. They have not given me the daily color discount, added items out of nowhere, and decided to make an item more expensive at the register without telling me. This has happened the past three times I’ve been in and that’s just when I started checking so who knows how long it’s been happening. Overall the people who work here are VERY nice and the items aren’t bad so I can’t give it less than three stars. I shop there because I need to save money so it is really frustrating to realize I’ve been overcharged every time I get home. I tried my best to watch this time and they still overcharged me $6. When I called to let them know they told me I had to bring all the items back and they’d take a look. Not worth it since I live far away. It’s just seems dishonest to run a business that way and that is unfortunate because I like shopping here.

Employees extremely rude, prices way too high for a store that takes things for free. Oh and absolutely DO NOT GO HERE if you are any religion other than “christian.” So much for a welcome atmosphere. Multiple people checked out before I did and even when I was in line behind other customers the employees were chatty and generally nice. As soon as I’m next the cashier immediately decided it was time to walk off. Different cashier comes up and completely avoids conversation and eye contact and continued conversation with the other cashier that left!! I had to ask what my total was, and even then I still didn’t get a response! Luckily they have an outward facing screen that says the price, and as soon as I had it ready she just so happened to remember she was supposed to be doing her job and not conversing with employees like they’re on break. Was hoping maybe some things would have changed after a while but apparently not. Extremely disappointed and definitely will tell everyone I know not to shop at this location.

Tried to drop off an ottoman to donate. They told me to take it back home with me because "nobody is going to buy it." The lady was very rude and short with me because it was right at closing time and she didn't want to accept a simple donation. We will donate it somewhere else where people are actually grateful for the donations they receive.

Pretty tired of being over charged here. Why do a half off tag if you won’t honor it at the checkout? Countless times I’ve checked my receipt when I get home and many half off items were not discounted and I was charged full price for them. Very disappointing and frustrating. Only didn’t give one star bc not every employee does it but some are bad about it.

Bad experience! There was a sign in the book section stating that the white tags were 50 percent off. Im a decorator and needed lots of books for a clients bookshelves. I spent 30 minutes selecting a whole cart full of books. When I got to the checkout they said no, the green tags were the only ones half off! They would NOT honor the sign they had posted even when I spoke to the manager. Not my fault they had the wrong sign up ! The manager obviously had not done her job in checking the signage. So instead of honoring their sign they lost a sale and made a customer angry. I graciously even but the books back and was going to search for green ones. Granted it was closing time but there were people in line but they turned out the lights so I just left!

My girlfriend, who happens to be a designer, & I stopped into this location late this afternoon, she was looking for knick knacks to put into a client's home, as well as books to fill in their bookcases. Located at the rear of the store, we noticed a sign that read, "white tagged books 50% off". After spending 30 to 45 minutes going through & picking out close to 50 books, as well as several other items, we proceed to the register, it is close to closing time, & when we get up to pay, my girlfriend is informed that the "white tag" sale was last week & someone "must of forgotten" to take down the sign. When asked how/why it was missed, we were informed, "we only had 4 people to open this morning". When we spoke to the manager, we were informed that "they don't normally put signs up in the back, we post them on the front door". To me personally, having been in retail my entire life & manager of several Fourtune 500 companies, this is TOTALLY INEXCUSABLE of a manager, IT IS their responsibility to make sure that the store is 100% ready for business when it opens & if there is a discrepancy with pricing, it is not only their job to correct the problem, but also their responsibility to honor said price, for a reasonable amount of items, unfortunately we were told that there was nothing they could do, even though the sign had been up all day & we were there at 3:15pm CST until 4:00pm CST. I will say, I will NEVER set foot inside this store again!!!!

This store has really improved over the last year in terms of organization and product. Really enjoy thrifting here. What prompted me to write this review is to say how happy I am that they actually enforce the current mask mandate. As I was checking out yesterday, the cashier strictly enforced it with a customer who had just walked in the door. As a pregnant person (and therefore in a higher covid risk group) it made me feel safer shopping there.
